Betty Lou Verhille, 71, of Solon, formerly of Marion, died Monday, January 23, 2006, at Mercy Hallmar, following an extended illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father Donald Klein and Deacon Laverne Flagel. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a Vigil service will begin at 6 p.m. Private burial will be at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include her husband of forty-seven years, Bob of Solon; three children, Dave (Sue) Verhille of Marion, Elisa Verhille of Chicago and Jim Verhille of Marion; four grandsons, Dan, Ben, Andrew and Robby Verhille; and an aunt, Erma Erickson of Ames.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and James Boyer.
Betty was born July 21, 1934, the daughter of Vernon and Beatrice (Erickson) Boyer in Creston. She graduated from Creston High School in 1952 and attended Iowa State University. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of Nursing in 1957. On June 21, 1958, she married Robert W. Verhille in Creston. Betty was a homemaker, worked as a registered nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and volunteered as a school nurse at Linn-Mar and Regis High School.
Betty was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Solon, a past member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion for 35 years, P.E.O., O.O.P., Embroiderer?s Guild of America, National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts, a member of the Presidents Club at the University of Iowa, volunteer of Mercy Hospice, Gamma Phi Beta, University of Iowa Alumni Association, past member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club and Indian Creek Country Club.
Betty had an artistic flair for and enjoyed crafts and handiwork, especially needlework and creating miniatures.
A memorial fund has been established in Betty?s memory.
