Betty Jean Toomer (Parsons)

Betty Jean Toomer, 82, of 2620 25th Ave. in Marion, formerly of Manchester, died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Private family services will be held officiated by Pastor Dave Soldner. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester. Arrangements by Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester.
Survivors include her children, Sue Ann Nodurft of Cedar Rapids, Jewell Mellody of Charles City, Linda Mellody of Marion, William (Carolyn) Toomer of Marion, and Todd (Donna) Toomer of West Des Moines; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis V. Toomer; her mother, Zella Jewell Smith; her step-father, Elmer W. Smith; and grandparents, William and Jennie Jewell.
Betty was born April 14, 1925, the daughter of Bert H. and Zella “Jewell” Parsons in Manchester. On July 18, 1942, she married Francis “Beans” Toomer in Lancaster, Missouri. He passed away on April 9, 1992.
Betty enjoyed eating out, shopping, and watching NASCAR on TV.
