Betty L. Smith, 78, of Ellijay, GA died Friday, June 19, 2009.
Funeral services will be at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Delhi, IA. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Delhi. Local arrangements are being handled by Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville.
Betty was born May 11, 1931 in Cook County Illinois, the daughter of Wayne and Edna (Jaeger) Vernon. She was united in marriage to Marlin R. Smith of Delhi.
Betty was a legal secretary, librarian and writer. She was a member of the Write-on Writer’s Association and helped to start the library at Coosawattee. She was active in GAHA and other organizations.
Betty is survived by her husband, Marlin; four children, Terry (Kathy) Smith of Troy, OH, Scott (Anna) Smith of Kennesaw, GA, Julie (Joe) Funk of Marietta, GA, Lisa (Mike) Brandon, of Enoree, SC; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, George Vernon of San Bernardino, CA, Eva Jean Jones of Poplar Bluff, MO, Barbara Schaefer of Booneville, MO, and Pamela Esner of Davenport.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Edna Vernon, two daughters, Kathy and Penny Smith and a brother, Jim Vernon.
