Betty Jane Sherbon, 78, of Walker, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by the Rev. David Ambrossey. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker, where the rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.

Survivors include her brother, Jimmy Sherbon of Walker; a sister, Agnes Stone of Brooklyn; and two stepsisters, Helen Moos Elliott and Alice Moos Bartrush, both of Elk River, Minnesota.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Ruthmary Sherbon of Walker; a brother-in-law, Wayne Roberts of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters; and 13 stepbrothers and stepsisters.

Betty was born December 26, 1929, the daughter of James and Margaret (Wintringer) Sherbon, near Walker, Iowa. She attended Mount Mercy College and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in education. Betty taught school at Troy Mills, West Branch and retired from the Maquoketa Schools. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, the Catholic Daughters and a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she enjoyed leading the rosary. Betty enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting. She also liked helping her brother.
