Betty Jean Ritze, 79, of Center Point, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at home, with her family, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Rev. Nick Longworth. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2004, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Lafayette, Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, Charles A.; her daughters, Charlene Anderson and husband Carl of Fort Dodge and Shirley Jean Peiffer and husband Leo of Langworthy, Iowa; her grandchildren, Carlelene Jean Anderson, Christina Jeanette Anderson, Dawn Michelle McElmeel, Stacy Kay Ericson, Troy Alan Mollenhauer, Kimberley Renee Peiffer and Kandey Rose Peiffer; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey Michelle McElmeel, Ashley Michelle Kraus and Brennan Matthew Ericson; a brother, Kenneth Pratt; three sisters-in-law, Nellie Ash, Ida Pratt and Arlene Barclay; Betty?s pen pal of 70 years, Cora Kerestes and husband Al, of Whitefish, Montana; and her long time dearest friend, Madlyn Johnson of Center Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Bernard and Merle Pratt, and "Babe? who died in infancy.
Betty was born November 26, 1924, the daughter of Burleigh Winslow "B.W.? and Della Mae (Barrett) Pratt, in Waubeek, Iowa. She married Charles on March 11, 1945, at Jordon?s Grove Church. Betty used to raise sheep, chickens and sold eggs, helped farm and milk cows, helped with she and her husband?s B&C grain and corn shelling business. She loved their family dogs, their kittens, and going to their Mission, Texas home in the winters, and her flowers & gardening. Betty always had time for her daughters and grandchildren. She has been so brave while battling her lengthy illness.
