Betty L. "Nettie" Smittkamp (Sage)

Betty L. Smittkamp, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, August 17, 2006, in her home following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids by Rev. Mark Thomas. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two sons, Paul (Reta) Saylor of Hiawatha and Howard (Rosalie) Saylor of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Audrey Jones of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Rick (Rene) Saylor, Michelle and Wendy Saylor, Corinne Hunt, and Chad, Jeremy and Candy Jones all of Cedar Rapids; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Rathburn of California; sisters-in-law, Mary Sage of Chicago and Mae Belle Beigo of Rock Island, Illinois; a special niece, JoAnne Cortez; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two great-grandchildren, Cory McMurray and Hannah Saylor; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Betty was born May 5, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John and Laura (Hoffman) Sage. Betty was a professional cook and worked in many Cedar Rapids area restaurants. Memorials may be made in Betty?s memory to Hospice of Mercy, 2740 1st Avenue N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402 or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, friends and to her daughter, Audrey who provided special care at the end of her life and to Hospice of Mercy.
