Betty Mae (Jones) Hoffman, 98, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 29th, 2023, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, Iowa.

Betty was born May 4th, 1925, in Monticello, Iowa, daughter of Edwin Jones and Gertrude (Richmond) Jones. She was the eldest of eight children. She attended school and graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1944. She was employed in the women’s clothing department at Killian’s Department Store in Cedar Rapids. Betty then worked and retired from Rockwell-Collins Aerospace building radios for the Apollo Space Mission. In her later years she moved to Summit Point and then to Wesley Acres in Des Moines after the Derecho.

She married Walter Hillis Hoffman on May 29th, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. She is survived by her son, Robert (Nancy) Hoffman; grandsons, Andrew (Abby) Hoffman, Adam (Kaitlyn) Hoffman; great-grandsons, Andersen Hoffman, and Adrian Hoffman. She is also survived by her brother, John (Donna) Jones; sister, Kathryn Chooljian; sister in-law, Thelma Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of the Marion Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Granger House Victorian Museum, Marion Heritage Center, read stories at the Marion Library, and danced with the Country Steppers Line Dancers. She especially enjoyed volunteering at Seminole Valley Farms, giving school tours. Betty and Walt enjoyed wintering in Mount Dora, Florida, for 13 years, where she taught line dancing. Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, writing, traveling, genealogy, meeting people from other cultures, and time with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Walter; siblings, Donald, Richard, Pauline Haas, Robert, and Russell.

Celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Marion Methodist Church, with visitation at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment at the Wilcox Cemetery in Viola, Iowa.
