Betty J. Himes, 78, of Living Center East, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Dan Clark-Bridges of Hope Lutheran Church. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
Survivors include her children, Julie Himes of Cedar Rapids, Mike Himes of Marion, Dan (Debbie) Himes and Bob (Kelly) Himes, all of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Gunnar, Brad, Amy, Jeff, Bob, David, Matt, Mason and Mackenzie; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Logan, Madison, Hunter and Scout; and two brothers, John Bents of Tipton and Jim Bents of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, DeWayne; a brother, Don Bents; and a son, Marion Himes.
Betty was born February 14, 1928, the daughter of Jake and Gladys Bents, in Olin, Iowa. On November 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to DeWayne Himes, in Monticello, Iowa. He died in 1985. Betty worked at Cryovac and cleaned offices in the Dows Office Building for many years. She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church and loved to play bingo. Betty was loved by all and will be missed.
