Betty Joyce Falcon (Ketelsen)

Betty Joyce Falcon, 82, of Springville, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Jon C. Moss. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Cherry) Falcon of Tustin, California, Julie (Alan) Pederson of Altoona, and Kathleen (Bruce) Vos of Pella; five grandchildren, Matthew Falcon, Adam Pederson, Jonathan (Lisa) Pederson, Calvin Vos, and Carter Vos; a brother-in-law Walter (Laura) Falcon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents, William and Margaret Ketelsen; and a brother William Ketelsen.
Betty was born on February 15, 1931, in Springville, the daughter of William and Margaret (Flockhart) Ketelsen. She graduated from Springville High School. On June 25, 1950, she married Gene Falcon in Anamosa. Betty was a member of the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church. She was the treasurer and secretary of the Prairie Chapel Sunday school and Women’s Society, as well as a Sunday school teacher. Betty worked on the County Election board for many years, was a 4-H girls leader, and a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Springville.
Betty, together with her husband, farmed for 35 years. She was very active in all of the daily activities, and was so proud to raise her family on the farm. Betty kept a large garden full of flowers and vegetables. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cooking and bird-watching. Betty’s biggest pride and joy were her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Betty’s memory.
