Betty L. Bergstad, 70, 1206 21st Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died, Monday, June 11, 2007, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Arnie, Dennis (Karen), Lynn, Fay (Dennis) Vomacka, Lisa (Danny), Rosie (Randy), Marty, Marian (Steven), all of Cedar Rapids, and Bobbie (Jason) of Palo; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Dick (Melody) Nelms of Clinton, Iowa; a sister, Cassie Freas of Sterling, Illinois; her life-long friend, Irene Leeson of Hiawatha, Iowa; a special niece, Pam Glick of Rock Falls, Illinois; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Gene Bealer; a niece, Beth Ann Bealer; and a son-in-law, Glen Behymer.
Betty was born October 2, 1936, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Bessant) Nelms, in Geneseo, Illinois. She moved to Iowa in February, 1967. Betty worked at Carfrae Meat Packing, Ranch Wagon and the O.N.E. Store. She also volunteered at ASAC and HACAP. A wonderful mother and grandmother, Betty was an avid bingo player, a card shark, enjoyed fishing and loved being active with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom she dearly loved. She was “everyone’s Mom” to many.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Betty.
