Bette J. Williams
June 7, 1924 — February 4, 2018
Bette J. Williams, 93, of Marion, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 4, 2018. The family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Steve Qualben. Private Inurnment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa, at a later date.
Bette was born June 7, 1924, in Winfield, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Lula Irwin. In 1956 she married Frank E. Williams in Iowa City. He passed away in 1974 while he was the principal at Lockridge Elementary. Bette loved to read, shop, go out to eat, laugh and enjoy time with her friends at Moundview Manor, watch Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights, and spend quality time with her family, especially her grandkids.
She is survived by her two daughters, Judith Nihart of Moorpark, California and Brenda (Jeff) Stabenow of Marion, Iowa; eight grandkids, Ryker, Raven, Paisley and Sadie Stabenow, all of Marion, Iowa, and Bethany, Sharon, Nicole and Courtney, all of California; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; four siblings, Helen, Bob, Bonnie and Jerry; grandson, Kent; and many loving sisters and brothers-in-law that made Bette feel like one of their own.
The family would like to thank all of the loving caretakers for Bette the last couple of months at ManorCare as well as Hospice of Mercy. She was treated like the queen she deserved to be treated like.
