Bessie Marie (French) Hand, 100, of Marion, Iowa, died Saturday, August 31, 2019, under hospice care at Winslow House, Marion. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at Galesburg Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg, Illinois. Arrangements were entrusted to Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Bessie was born July 17, 1919, in Illinois, to George and Nettie (Gray) French. She was united in marriage to Charles LeRoy Hand on November 19, 1939. To this union, two children were born.
Bessie was a homemaker who enjoyed baking and cooking. She was a hardworking farm girl and devoted military wife. Bessie was a former member of the Navy Mothers of Iowa. She loved little ones and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Sally (Woody) Smith of Marion and Terry Hand of Pahrump, Nevada; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy in 1988; granddaughter, Cindy Chapman; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hand; and siblings, Lloyd, Virgil, Walter, Sarah, Clyde, Dorathy and Eunice;
