Bessie B. Bittner, 93, of Marion, died Monday, February 26, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father John Gossman. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (George) Kopetsky and Mary Pierce, both of Marion; seven grandchildren, Teresa (Mark) Ramos, Lisa (Bryan) Coffey, Kim Kopetsky, Denise (Dennis) Wilmoth, Danette (Mike) Madison, Danelle (Roger) Carney, and Jason (Jenna) Pierce; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; two sisters, Agnes and Rosey; and two brothers, Louis and John.

Bessie was born September 15, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Kerl) Wagner in Spillville. On February 1, 1940, she married Robert Edison Bittner in Spillville. He died July 8, 1990. Bessie made her home the last few years with her daughter Mary in Marion. She enjoyed farming with her husband, gardening, crocheting, sewing, and spending time with her family.
