Bess B. Kinnan, 97, a resident of Living Center West, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness. Services: 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids by Rev. Susan Detwiler of St. James United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 3-7, Sunday, January 11, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her three children, Jeanne Fuller of Jesup, Iowa, Judith Woods of Portland, Oregon and Jerry Kinnan and wife Anna of Addison, Illinois; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Bess was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Joe Kinnan; a brother, Harry Baldwin; and two sisters, Dollie Howard and Florence French.

Bess was born July 22, 1906, the daughter of John and Florence (Gage) Baldwin, in Elgin, Iowa. She married Joseph Roy Kinnan on June 29, 1929, in Independence, Iowa. Bess was a homemaker and she also worked for J.C. Penney for 24 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also was the world?s best cook. Bess was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Silver Club, Shriners Auxillary and Kings Daughters.
