Bertha E. Trimble, 97, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Visitation: 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Rapids, with additional visitation at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Bertha was born November 10, 1920, in Sheridan, Missouri, the daughter of Rev. Ernest and Ethel (Stevenson) Russell. On November 18, 1937, Bertha was united in marriage to Clair E. Trimble. They farmed in the Toddville area for over 30 years. Bertha taught Sunday School for fifty years and sang in the church choir. She loved baking, especially bread, and watching “Jeopardy” and “The Price Is Right”. Bertha’s greatest joy was her family.
Bertha is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Sheffer of Olathe, Kansas, Eileen (George) Fluharty of Cedar Rapids, and L’louise (Dennis) Schmickle of Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Shari (Wayne) Fritch, Kim (Todd) Butler and Tina (Doug) Goetzinger, all of Cedar Rapids, Angelisa Dayan of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Greg (Donna) Sheffer of Olathe, Kansas, Brenda (Glen) Shoup of Mission, Kansas, Jason Bowman of Saigon, Vietnam, and Stephanie Niehus of Phoenix, Arizona; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ethel Russell; husband, Clair Trimble, brother, Eugene Russell; and sister Ruth Range.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakland Church of the Nazarene for missions.
