Bertha Ellen Ozburn, 94, a resident of Bickford Cottage in Marion, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice Home of Mercy. Services: 10:30 a.m. June 6, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father Rod Allers. The family will greet friends one hour before services at the church. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharron (Bill) Grundy of Marion; a granddaughter, Chris (Bill) Abigt of Ottumwa, and their children, Heidi, Karissa, and Tyler; a grandson, Matt (Trish) Grundy of Marion, and their children, Will and Megan; a granddaughter in law, Mona Grundy and her daughter Maggie.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, and one grandson, Mark.
Bert was born March 6, 1915, in Cedar Rapids to Frank and Nettie (McArtor) Dvorak. She was married to Jack Ozburn in 1933, they had one daughter, Sharron. They later divorced in 1946. One of the Hospice nurses asked Bert what she did for a living, and her response was, “I helped put an astronaut on the moon.” She did this while working on the Apollo project at Rockwell Collins from where she retired in 1979. Bert had many interests, including sewing, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Her greatest love was crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and great-greatchildren.
