Bertha Fern Oliphant, 100, of Center Point, Iowa, died Friday, March 30, 2007, at the Rock Ridge Care Center, Shellsburg, following a short illness. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Jeffrey Ginn. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial: Oliphant Cemetery, rural Toddville, Iowa.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews on the Cress and Oliphant sides of the family and a sister-in-law, Claribel Cress.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmar; three brothers and wives, Everett (Erma) Cress, Lloyd (Margaret) Cress and Forrest Cress.
She was born February 28, 1907, near Toddville, Iowa, to John and Minerva (Andrews) Cress. After graduation from high school and attending U.N.I. (Iowa State?s Teacher?s College,) she taught in a rural school until her marriage to Delmar Oliphant on February 13, 1932 in Rock Island, Illinois. They spent their life farming in the Toddville and Center Point area. After Delmar?s death on June 7, 1976, she sold their farm and moved to Center Point. She was a member of the Green?s Grove Community Church, Alert Book Club, Betty?s Grove Homemaker?s Club and Toddville Senior Citizens.
