Bertha M. Traver, 90, of Manchester, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 15, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Manchester by Revs. Roger Henry and Jill Mack. Family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
Bertha was born September 5, 1918, in Edgewood, the daughter of Arthur and Susan (Kauffman) Baxter. She attended Oneida Consolidated and Sand Springs Schools. On November 15, 1937, Bertha was united in marriage to Donald F. Traver at the Methodist Church parsonage in Manchester. The couple farmed near Ryan.
Bertha was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Martha Circle, She was also a member of Farm Bureau, the Delaware County Porkettes, and an honorary member of the Delaware County Cowbells. Bertha joined the Corners Club in 1938, a 35 year member of the Prairie Center Grange, and a member of the Masonville Grange. She was also an active member of the Flora Garden Club, serving as president and secretary.
Bertha is survived by four children, Donald (Sharon) Traver of Manchester, Beverly (Eugene) Riniker of Beaumont, CA, David (Sharlene) Traver of Ryan, and Sheryl (Frank) DeHaro of Banning, CA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Traver of Riverside, CA; one brother, Joseph Baxter of Riverside, CA; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Corell of Fountain Valley, CA.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Traver in March 2007; her parents, Arthur and Susan Baxter; two sisters, Margaret Cox and Vergie Harrington; and three brothers, Winfrey Baxter, Arthur Baxter and Merle Baxter.
