Bernita Marie Satkamp, 89, a resident of Hallmark Care Center, died Saturday, December 21, 2002, in the care center, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2002, at the funeral home. Inurnment: St. Paul?s United Methodist Church Columbarium.

Survivors include a son, William and wife Barbara; and a granddaughter, Raemi, all of Cedar Rapids.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Leila Kirk.

Bernita was born April 5, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Lala) Fee in Center Point, Iowa. She served her country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a lifetime member of the Women?s Marine Association. Bernita worked as a licensed insurance agent for many years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, Elizabeth Circle and a past member of the Insurance Women?s Association of Cedar Rapids. Bernita also volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for a number of years and was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.

Bernita always enjoyed meeting people and making new friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eastern Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer?s Association in memory of Bernita.
