Bernita Mae Gollobit, 86, of Coggon, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, in University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, after a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg, by the Rev. Wayne Droessler. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Anamosa. The family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce (Leon) Soukup of Central City.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Tammy (Mike) Dougherty, Sara (Brad) Lehr, John Soukup, Joe (Leslie) Soukup, Katie Soukup, Kevin (Alisia) Carradus and Greg (Shelly) Carradus; ten great-grandchildren, Tyler (Amanda), Megan, Sierra, Alex, Elie, Brianna, Caitlyn, Courtney, McKenna and Brayton; a great-great-grandchild, Claire; a daughter-in-law, Pam Carradus; a cousin, Pauline Fargo; special nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Glen Morarie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virtus; son, Philip; grandson, Daniel Soukup; sister, Geraldine Kula; and brother-in-law, Ralph Kula.

Bernita was born on June 19, 1919, the daughter of Edward and Kathryn (Rushford) Barnes in Anamosa, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. She first married Francis Dale Carradus on August 1, 1942, in Anamosa. Later, she was united in marriage to Virtus Gollobit on August 21, 1971, in Anamosa. He died February 9, 1977. Bernita had worked at Younker?s, as the librarian for the city of Central City, and the Central City Historical Society. She was a talented artist and enjoyed dancing, eating and spending time with family and friends.
