Bernita Tull Coonrod, 93, of Center Point, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Hiawatha Care Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009, at the Center Point Road Church of Christ, Toddville, by David Graham. The family will greet friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.
Survivors include her son, Terry (Sandie) Tull of Center Point; step-children, Marlys Tritle of Albert Lea, MN, Larry (Betty) Coonrod of Mesa, AZ, and Donald (Barb) Coonrod of Springville; two grandchildren, Valerie (Kim) Sleege of Center Point, and Vicki (Jon) Rathje of Marion; several step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Andrew, Julia, Carl and Aaron; a nephew, Richard (Jan) Oliphant of Indian Wells, CA; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Berry of Burnsville, MN.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, and one brother, Lloyd Oliphant.
Bernita was born February 13, 1916, in rural Toddville, the daughter of Wesley and Grace (Mounce) Oliphant. She graduated from Toddville High School in 1933. Bernita married Clifford Tull in 1938 in Toddville. She and Clifford owned and operated the Midway General Store for several years. Clifford died in 1948. She then married Ivan Coonrod in 1951 in Iowa City. Together, they owned and operated Hendryx Motors in Center Point for 17 years. She was an avid bowler and golfer, and was active in many leagues over the years. Bernita was a member of the Center Point Road Church of Christ.
