Bernita Mae (Anderson) Butters, 94, of Central City, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, following a brief illness. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2006, at United Church of Christ in Central City by Rev. Jonna Jensen. The family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Private Family Inurnment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.
Survivors include three sons, Clifford B. (Vicki) Butters of Central City, Thomas Boyd (Marcia) Butters of Central City, and Barry E. (Donna) Butters of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Neva Lanning of Center Point; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Beverly; a daughter, Beverly Bebe Butterfield; and a sister, Bernice Koch.
Bernita was born April 25, 1911, the daughter of Edward C. and Irma (Bell) Anderson in Alburnett. She graduated from Coe College in 1932. In August of 1935, she married Beverly H. Butters in Alburnett. He died in 1986. Bernita worked at the family grocery store and taught at Central City schools for eleven years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Central City, Pythian Sisters, American Legion Wapsi Post No. 421 Auxiliary of Central City, and the Literary Club.
