Bernice Marie Killham, 91, of Crestview Acres Care Center in Marion, died Monday, February 18, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion by Rev. Jerry Doellinger. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 25, 2008, Chambers Cemetery, Chambers, Nebraska. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa.
Bernice was born October 7, 1916, one of ten children born to Conrad and Chloenella (Wintermote) Harley, in Holt County, Nebraska. She married Charles Samuel Killham on December 21, 1935 in Chambers, Nebraska. He died April 12, 1989. During their married life, the couple lived in Fullerton, Nebraska; Casper and Superior, Wyoming; Canon City, Longmont, and Denver, Colorado; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bernice resided at their Cedar Rapids home for 32 years before moving to Garnett Place, Cedar Rapids, and then Crestview Acres Care Center, Marion, in 2006.
Bernice was a loving and caring wife and mother and enjoyed working in her yard and flower garden and loved reading and doing craft projects. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion for over 33 years.
Survivors include her son, Darrel (Esther) Killham, and a daughter, Sharon (Thomas) Johnson, both of Marion; 5 grandchildren, Gregory (Diane) Johnson, Marie (Tom) McCurry, Shari (John) Wagner, Cheryl Killham, and Sheila Williams; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild and 1 step-great-great-grandchild; and 2 sister-in-laws, LaVern Harley and Clara Harley, both of Chambers, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; 4 brothers, Louis, Victor, Paul, and Vernon Harley; and 5 sisters, Neta Briggs, Hazel Mohr, Wanda Lenz, Laville Pettitt and Edna Jenkins.
