Berniece Theresa (Tritle) Callanan, 81, of Marion, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church, Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 8 p.m., Monday, December 21, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, where a Vigil Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Survivors include her children, Barry (Judy) Tritle, Brian Tritle, Gerita (Jake) Glade, Jamae (Glen) Remington; step-children, Mark Callanan, Mike (Kim) Callanan, Steve (Lynne) Callanan, Cathy (Terry) Sindelar, Greg (Theresa) Callanan, Susan Callanan, Brian Callanan, and Pat (Kara) Callanan; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; a brother, James (Shirley) Crowley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl; a son, Robert Tritle, a daughter, Bambi Tritle, and 6 brothers and sisters.

Berniece was born August 12, 1928, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Crilley) Crowley, in Prairieburg, Iowa. She married Carl W. Tritle in 1947. He died on February 4, 1974. She later married Dave Callanan on July 18, 1997 in Comfrey, Minnesota. Berniece was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church for 13 years. She was also a member of the Fairfax Legion Post # 572, American Business Women’s Association, Jungle Fighters, and the Bowling Hall of Fame. Berniece loved playing cards and gambling.

A memorial fund has been established in Berniece’s memory.
