Bernetta “Bunny” Lee Hopkins, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, at UnityPoint Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 1 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with words from family and friends at 4 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date at the Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa.
Bunny was born on December 29, 1947, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Bernice (Rose) Nehring. She was a graduate of North Linn High School. On May 9, 1970, Bunny was united in marriage to William “Bill” Hopkins in Walker, Iowa. She was a stay-at-home mom and a co-owner of Hopkins 4x4 Center in Cedar Rapids with her husband. She worked for many years as the secretary at the Duane Arnold Energy Center during it’s start up. Later, she worked as Counselor’s secretary at McKinley Middle School, where she was affectionately known as “Ms. Bunny”. In her younger years, she enjoyed the Cedar 4-Wheelers. She had a deep love for the Mississippi River and spent many years visiting and spending time along the river. Bunny will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Bunny is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Bill Hopkins of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Tonia (Jason) Rowe of Madison, Wisconsin; and two grandchildren, Ella and Liam Rowe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Trevor Hopkins; brother, Tom Torrey; and sister, Charlotte Wilson.
