Bernard H. “Witt” Witting, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, January 14, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carol Witting of Cedar Rapids; sons, Mark (Susan) Witting of Fairfax, Iowa, Matt Witting of Cedar Rapids, Jon (Julie) Witting of Akins, Iowa and Jan (Cory) Witting of California; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Sylvia) Witting of West Point, Iowa; brother-in-law, Fred Baxter of Nauvoo, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Witt was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Elizabeth Witting, Anna Marie Burger and Carmelita Baxter.

Witt was born on April 3, 1926, in Salem, Iowa, son of Henry and Kathryn (Woerdman) Witting. He attended St. John’s School in Houghton, Iowa. Witt helped on the family farm, and then later entered in the United States Army. Upon returning from the military he returned to the farm then moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked for Cedar Rapids Block Company and later at Prestressed Concrete of Iowa. On September 27, 1958, he married Carol Hensely at St. Patrick’s Church in Cedar Rapids. Witt was a member of Catholic Workers and St. Jude’s Catholic Church. He was a hardworking man and self-educated and farmed his entire life. Witt loved to golf and enjoyed traveling.
