Bernard L. Stoecker, 87, of 242 Normandy Dr., died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2900 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids by Rev. Wesley Bruss. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Bertha of Marion; two sons, LaVerne Stoecker and wife Linda of Menagha, Minnesota and Steven Stoecker and wife Terri of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Marla Malone and husband Kelly of Central City; a sister, Margaret McArthur and husband Virgil of Central City; seven grandchildren, Charity, Chance, Shane, Kris, Tiffany, Shelby and Riley; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Shannon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children, Dewayne Lee and Sandra Kay; and a sister Doris Wood.
Bernard was born January 29, 1918, the son of Walter Fredrick and Iva Mae (Bridge) Stoecker in Newhall. On June 28, 1945, he married Bertha Marie Kistler in Osceola. Bernard worked for Happel & Sons as a truck driver for twenty-nine years. He farmed in the Center Point and Central City areas.
Bernard enjoyed traveling, fishing, taking pictures and his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
