Bernard David Coleman, 85, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5th at Mercy Medical Center. His funeral Mass celebrating his life will be at St. John’s Catholic Church in Coggon at 10:30 am Tuesday, November 8, 2011. The wake will be Monday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm where family and friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City. There will be a Scripture service at 7:00 pm. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Coggon.
Bernard is survived by his 4 children, Becky (Bob) Basham, Donnie (Linda) Burke, Dave (Ann) Coleman, & Sandy (Doug) Winn; grandchildren, Denise (Skip) Basham, Jason (Jennifer) Basham, Christina Steen, Tim (Gina), Tom (Mindy) & Travis (Cassie) Burke, Trisha (Nick) Putman, Martha & Daniel Coleman, Luke & Jared (Kylee) Winn; and great grandchildren Ryan, Jeremy, Bailee, Tiara, Kalinda, M’Lynn, Sadie, Cadynce, Mackenzie, Macoy, Christopher, Ella, Nolan, Kaden, Elizabeth, Catherine & two more on the way; in-laws, many nieces & nephews, and his dog Harley.
Bernard was born August 10, 1926 to Dennis & Caroline Coleman near Silver Creek. He married L. Kathryn “Katie” Klima on May 26, 1954. His loving wife passed away Sept. 13th of this year. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his three brothers, Robert, Dennis, Richard, & sister Marguerite Spang.
Bernard worked at Quaker Oats for 33 years. He and Katie were also vendors at the Cedar Rapids City Market for over 50 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, farming, & fishing, as well as reading, dancing, chatting with family & friends, playing cards, and an occasional trip to the casino. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
