Bernard "Ben" E. Jones
August 21, 1935 — March 23, 2019
Bernard “Ben” E. Jones, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 23, 2019, at a St. Luke’s Hospital. Per his wishes, he has requested cremation with a simple gathering of friends and family which will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Hope Lutheran Church located at 2736 Bowling Street SW, Cedar Rapids. The family has requested no flowers, please.
Ben was born August 21, 1935, in Harlan, Iowa. During his long life Ben was a farmer, owned a grocery store and worked with this family in furniture businesses. Over the last 20 years he enjoyed working a few days a week at Carpet King in Marion. Ben enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and testing his luck at Blackjack. Ben also loved his dogs as well as all animals, whether they were in his yard or darting across a field.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Bernadette “Bernie” (Platten) Jones; sons, Jerry (Cindy) Jones, Jeff (Judy) Jones and John (Donna) Jones; step-children, Annette (Rod) Michel and Bret (Christine) Jones; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
