Bernadine Ione (Carpenter) Nieman, 84, of Manchester formerly of Delhi, died October 11, 2010 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the Earlville United Parish by Revs. Ken Hartman and Jill Mack. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour prior to services. Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Earlville, Iowa.
Bernadine was born November 23, 1925 in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Rueben “Jud” and Laura (Gibbs) Carpenter. Graduating from the Oneida High School in 1942, she graduated from the Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids, IA. On August 22, 1948, Bernadine was united in marriage to Harold George Nieman at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester. The couple farmed in the Delhi area.
Bernadine was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Hopkinton, and the United Presbyterian Women. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Ryan. Bernadine enjoyed music, baked cakes, pies and making candy. She enjoyed gardening; picking strawberries, and canning the produce from the garden. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Bernadine is survived by her husband, Harold Nieman of Manchester; five children, Wayne (Chris) Nieman of Richardson, TX, Sharon (Mike) Osweiler of Chandler, AZ, Ralph (Reva) Nieman of Delhi, Gary (Zeta) Nieman of Manchester, and Annette (Mike) Farrell of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren, Justin (Liz) Nieman, Kevin (Melissa) Nieman, Emily (Danny) Muteb, Amber Nieman, Matthew (Fiancé Nicole) Nieman, Amanda Nieman, Lisa (Josh) Snow, Andrea Nieman, Dan Osweiler, Stuart Osweiler, Michelle Farrell, and Kelly Farrell ; 6 great-grandchildren, Russell Nieman, Lucy Nieman, Hazel Nieman, Austin Snow, Kelli Snow, Abby Nieman, and expecting two more great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Peterson of Richardson, TX.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, Rueben and Laura Carpenter; siblings, Clair Carpenter, Faye Morton.
