Bernadine Bevauns, 98, a resident of West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died at the care center on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, by the Rev. Howard Chapman. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are with Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include her children, Ann (Glenn) Pike and Jack (Barbara) Bevauns, all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Allan Pike, Lisa Pike, Bruce Pike and Jeff Bevauns; and six great-grandchildren, Nichole, Katherine, Alexandria, Marissa, William and Meghan Pike.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Merrill Cate and Thomas Cate; two sisters, Betty (Cate) Kelsey and Helen (Cate) Reichert; a granddaughter, Michelle Pike; and a special friend, Margaret Johnston.

Bernadine was born March 18, 1905, the daughter of Arthur Cate and Della Louella (John) Cate in Perry, Iowa. She graduated from Perry High School in 1922. She moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad in Atkins. Then, on September 12, 1925, she was united in marriage to Jacques H. Bevauns in Marion. He died April 3, 1968. Bernadine was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion for seventy-one years, where she served as church secretary for many years. She was also a member of Tuck-A-Stitch Club, the Milwaukee Club and Order of Eastern Star No. 183 of Marion.

Bernadine was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She delighted in spending time with her family and was always there to lend an ear to family and friends. She loved dogs of all kinds.

The family wishes to thank the staff at West Ridge Care Center for all their kind care and support for Bernadine. It will never be forgotten.
