Petty Officer 2nd class, Benjamin Richard Sharf passed away north of Panama City, Florida on October 21, 2007. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with military honors by the United States Navy.
Born June 26, 1974 in Cedar Rapids Iowa, the son of Ronald R. and Deana Remington Sharf; Ben lived in Mt. Vernon, attending Mt. Vernon schools through the 8th grade. Moving to St. Joseph Missouri in 1988, Ben graduated from Central High School in 1992.
Ben was a member of The Children of the American Revolution, Little Muddy Society. He served in most offices including, Society President, Iowa State President and Regional Vice President. Ben always showed a great love of his country and in November 2001, Ben enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Tarawa. He has served his country honorably including two tours of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ben was currently stationed in Panama City, Florida as a Navy recruiter. Throughout his service to his country he touched the lives of many people and was well respected by all of his colleagues.
He is survived by his beloved son, Mahlan Sharf of Cedar Rapids; his wife, Gina Barrio Sharf; stepsons, Alexander & Christopher, all of Pensacola, Florida; his parents, Ron and Dee Sharf of Avon, Illinois; his sister Angela Sharf (Roper); and nephews, Evan and Jace Roper, all of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Ralph A. and Ann Lnenicka Sharf and his maternal grandparents, Loren L. and Betty Burkey Remington.
Ben will be missed by many, but always loved and never forgotten.
