Benham Franklin Adams, 89, of Vinton, IA died Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Lutheran Home for the Aged Association-East in Vinton, following a short illness.
Born January 31, 1918, in Bruneau Valley, Owyhee County, Idaho, he was the son of Ida and George Adams. In 1937, he married Clarice V. Gardner of Bonaparte. They later divorced.
Mr. Adams worked at the IAAP after returning from the Navy. He also worked at Murray Iron Works, and then 33 years at J.I. Case. He enjoyed fishing and traveling after retiring from J.I. Case. He was a member of the American Legion George G. Luckey Post 57 in Vinton and the United Auto Workers Local #807 in Burlington.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Bob) F. (Judy) Adams of Burlington and James (Barry) M. (Lois) Adams of Vinton; a stepdaughter, Linda Simanek of Walker; one grandson, Byron James (BJ) Adams; one great-granddaughter, Rayne Adams; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in his death by his parents; his first wife, Clarice, second wife, Dorothy, and third wife, Dorothy; four sisters, Gertrude Simons, Belle Hawes, Hope Kofo and Atha Heiland; one brother, Joe; one stepdaughter, Marilyn Jean Derksen; and one son, Richard.
Visitation will be 12 ?" 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008, at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, in Cedar Rapids. The Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday following visitation by Rev. Jim Blair. Mr. Adams is being cremated at his request and inurnment will be at Bonaparte Cemetery, Bonaparte, at a later date. Military honors will be provided by American Legion George G. Luckey Post 57 of Vinton.
Memorials have been established for Lutheran Home for the Aged Association-East, Leaping Rescues, and Amenity Hospice, all in Vinton.
