Belle V. Stewart, 97 a resident of Northbrook Manor Care, Cedar Rapids, died May 29, 2007, at the care center, following a short illness. Services: 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jack Kendall. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her special friend, Phyllis Daugherty of Cedar Rapids; and many other friends.
She was preceded in death by a child at birth; her husband, Fred; and a brother, Louis Weaver.
Belle was born December 15, 1909, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Krcmer) Weaver, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a teenager and daddy’s girl, she worked for her father at his Rialto Theater as a ticket taker. On May 23, 1932, Belle was united in marriage to Fred Stewart in Anamosa, Iowa. Together for 12 years, they ran the North Shore Lodge on Pequot Lake in Minnesota. She worked as a clerk for Armstrong’s, retiring after 13 years of service. Belle also did volunteer work for Mercy Medical Center. A member of the Sharon United Methodist Church and The Women’s Club, she enjoyed going to bible studies at the church and she loved dogs, especially Annie. Some of her friends knew her as “Billie”.
