Barbara Hansen Studer, 77, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in her home, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial: St. John Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, with a vigil service at 6 p.m.
Survivors include five sisters, Marjorie Fraenkel and husband Jack of San Francisco, Carol Emerson and husband Ronald of Grinnell, Rosemary Soukup and husband Paul of Papillion, Nebraska, Karen Town of Grinnell and Susan Maybanks and husband George of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are fourteen nephews; seven nieces; twenty-eight great nieces and nephews; devoted friend, Carl Anderson and their pet dog, Buckshot.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; her parents, Holger and Sophia Hansen; a sister, Marie Trachta; brothers-in-law, Robert Trachta and Duane Town; and a nephew and godson, Kevin Soukup.
Barbara was born on March 24, 1929 to Holger and Sophia (Kuncl) Hansen. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School in Cedar Rapids. Barbara worked as a secretary at Dearborn Brass Company, then at Rockwell Collins. She was married to Ivan Studer for thirty years.
Barbara was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she enjoyed cooking for the priests, served on several committees, cooked and served the monthly elderly meal, and helped to decorate the church for services.
Our faithful and generous sister, aunt, cousin and friend will be greatly missed by all of us.
