Barbara J. Penn, 87, of 2380 12th Ave. in Marion, died, Friday, September 5, 2008, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Dr. Robert Kunz. The family will greet friends from 4:00 ?" 6:30 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Ray; two sons, Doug (Rita) Penn of Marion and Thomas (Cathy) Penn of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Megan, Michelle, and Emma Penn; and a sister, Margery Jacobsen of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Price.
Barb was born September 4, 1921, the daughter of Ray and Ruth (Joyce) Price in Marion. She graduated from Marion High School in 1939 and from Cedar Rapids Business College. On March 1, 1947, she married Ray R. Penn at Marion Christian Church. Barb worked at LaPlante Choate for nine years and then at the Marion Public Library for twenty-four years, retiring in 1993.
Barb was a lifelong member of Marion Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary No. 298 of Marion. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and socializing with friends, and was an avid reader. Barb loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Barb’s memory.
