Barbara J. Dykhuizen “Sister D.”, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died from a rare brain disease at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha. Services: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the New Life Pentecostal Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rev. Pierre Gibbs, Rev. James McCoy and Jamie Fisher. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, William Dykhuizen; children, Debbie Chamberlain, Reno (Janet) Faust, Juli Faust, Jody (Pam) Faust, and Desiree (Terry) Vik; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry, Harry and Curtis Overly; and special friend, Kim Ross.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Barb was born on July 21, 1938, in Grant Michigan, daughter of Kenneth Overly and Birdie (Kyle) McNulty. On December 19, 1987, Barb married William Dykhuizen. She worked at Rockwell Collins and also at the Wapsi Drive Inn and the Copper Kettle both in Central City. Barb was a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church. Barb was a beautiful strong woman who’s life was teaching people about God and she also enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday school. She always made people feel comfortable, never knew a stranger and loved people unconditionally.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
