Barbara “Barb” Harrison, 79, of Hiawatha, Iowa, died Monday, June 21, 2021, at her home. A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the funeral home. Inurnment to follow at the Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Cedar Rapids.
Barb was born on October 29, 1941, in Faribault, Minnesota, the daughter of Harold and Ellanora (Funk) Bond. In 1960, she was in the first graduating class after attending all 3 years at Jefferson High School. Barb was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Harrison on May 25, 1960, in Marion, Iowa. She worked as the head miller at Quaker Oats for 21 years. Barb was a member of the Widows & Widowers. She enjoyed sewing baby blankets and hospice prayer shawls for UnityPoint Hospital with her sewing group at the Hiawatha Care Center. She was nominated for the 2017 Iowa Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Theresa) Harrison, Christina Harrison, all of Cedar Rapids, and Chris (Lori) Harrison of San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandra (David) Rizzio, and Mary Beltz, all of Cedar Rapids, and Virginia Wappel of St. Paul, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ellanora Bond; her husband, Chuck Harrison in 2015; daughter, Cherrie Thompson; brother, Charles Stephens; and sisters, Genevieve Gallagher and June Stephens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
