Avis L. Moon, 86, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, died Saturday, August 20, 2005, in the care center with her son and daughter at her side. Services: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Burial: Center Point Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Earl Moon and wife, Robyn of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Annis Bear and husband James of Preston, Iowa; and two grandsons, Philip and Karl Bear.
She was one of six children, Freida Harrell, deceased, Hazel Keil, Arnold Lanning and wife, Maxine, all of Cedar Rapids; Doris Smith of San Jose, California; and Evelyn Roseberry and husband, Bert of Center Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Elva (Boyd) Lanning and husband, Kenneth L. Moon on August 21, 2004.
Avis was born May 27, 1919, at Toddville, Iowa. She was married to Kenneth L. Moon, in December of 1941. Avis attended Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids and operated her own beauty shops for several years in Iowa City and later in Center Point. She was employed at Craemer?s Department Store during World War II and became a homemaker.
Avis enjoyed the S.A.M. Club, which was a monthly gathering with her siblings. She and her husband enjoyed watching birds, playing bridge, collecting antiques, working crossword puzzles and in earlier years golfing at Indian Creek Country Club in Marion. They were very close to their family and two grandsons, Philip and Karl.
She was fond of her care givers at Manor Care, Silver Pines, Hiawatha Care Center, and Dr. Kenneth Cearlock and his wonderful staff.
