Arvin “Cooper” Cooper, 84, of Delaware, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Clifton – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville; a time of sharing will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a graveside committal service with military rites at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Arvin was born January 17, 1933, in Delaware, Iowa, the son of William and Marie (Helmrichs) Cooper. His mother, Marie, passed away when Arvin was only two weeks old. He was raised by his father’s sister and husband, Netta and Merle Dighton. Arvin was a graduate of Oneida High School and remained a lifelong resident of Delaware. Arvin served honorably in the United States Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He returned to Delaware where he farmed and was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Arvin is survived by two sisters, Lottie Sands and Phyllis Johnson; a brother, Harry Dighton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gladwin Dighton; a sister and three brothers-in-law, Erma (Howard) McMullen, Vincent Sands and Ole Johnson.

Per Arvin’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Maquoketa Valley Dollars for Scholar.
