Arthur A. Raithel, 77, of Earlville, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following complications of a stroke.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9 at the Earlville United Parish in Earlville by Rev. Harlan Kaden. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services Saturday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.

Arthur was born March 3, 1930 in Russellville, Missouri, the son of Emil G. and Anna (Fischer) Raithel. In 1952, he came to Victor, Iowa to work as a farmhand. Arthur moved to Belle Plaine and worked for Leo Kelly Farm Implement Company in 1965. In 1969, Arthur began working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1995. Arthur was united in marriage to Carol Klaren on June 22, 1992 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville. They resided south of Earlville in the Timbergate subdivision. Arthur was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Carol Raithel of Earlville; two step-sons, Terry Sellner (Betty Richardson) of Monticello and Thomas (Pam) Sellner of Manchester; six step-daughters, Tamy (Robert) Halfhill of Earlville, Tracy (Alan) Bohr of New Hampton, Tana (Grant) Guetzko of Delhi, Trudy (James) Carmicheal of Marshalltown, Tina (Duane) Elgin and Tricia (Allan) Connolly of Manchester; 23 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorene Amos of Russellville, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Anna Raithel; a sister, Stella Conroy; two brothers, Edmund and Elmer Raithel; one step-son, Tim Sellner in 1999; one step-grandson, Austin Newman; and one step-great-grandson, Matthew Sellner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or Camp Courageous.
