Arthur (Art) Pollet, 88, of 343 26th Street N.W., Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, of a long illness of congestive heart failure. Services: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. David Dyrland. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Trenna; his daughter, Patricia Smith of Cedar Rapids; and son, Robert Pollet of Yardley, PA.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy Beers of Cedar Rapids and Bernice Crozier of Fairfax; and brother, Richard Pollet of Apache Junction, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Arthur Jr.; two sisters, Gladys, and Blanche Gorsh; and five brothers, Teddy, Robert, Delbert, Charlie and Walter.
Art was born October 12, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John and Grace (Eckland) Pollet. On January 21, 1938, he married Trenna McCune in Cedar Rapids and they raised a family together. He served our country in the U.S. Army during WW II and was stationed in various locations in Germany. Art was employed by Barnard and Lee?s manufacturing for approximately 25 years, where he rose to the position of general shop foreman. He then started a home improvement business which he operated until his retirement.
Art enjoyed fishing and hunting, taking annual fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada and hunting trips to Lansing, Iowa, where he bagged a trophy 300 pound, 10 point buck. He also played golf and attended a large garden. He was a Golden Gloves boxer.
Art was a caring man, often supporting family members in need. He was also physically and mentally strong.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion.
Art was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family.
