Arthur Johnson, 71, of Walker, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, in his daughter Sherry?s home following a short battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 15, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Friends may call from 5-8, Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites, Walker.
Survivors include his children, Cindy (Robert) Jones, Arthur (Kay) Johnson, Sherry (Mark) Sackett, Linda Johnson all of Walker, and Tina Johnson of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Michelle (Bill) Beshears, Jeromy (Dawn) Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Charity Johnson, Carisa Johnson, Cody Johnson, Carolyn Johnson, Carter Johnson, Jessica Sackett, Martin Sackett and Tara Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Brianna Johnson, Trevon Johnson, Kaine Beshears, Chloe Christain; and a sister, Ollie Hearn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Mary Lee Johnson; his brothers, Frank Johnson, Ross Johnson and Robert Johnson; his half-brothers, John McNeill, James McNeill, Richard McNeill, Rivers McNeill, Billy McNeill and Lyle Johnson.
Arthur was born June 26, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ross Oliver and Hazel (Stein) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He had been married to Loretta McInteer and then Marlene Johnson. Arthur worked in the food service industry for Witwer Foods, Eagle Foods and then owned Royal Blue Grocery Store in Coggon. He then worked as a meat packer at Wilson Foods and Farmstead until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion in Walker, and the P3 Retirees.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
