Arthur Anthony Arens

Arthur A. Arens, 93, of Marion, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 2 - 5 p.m., Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, where a Vigil Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2008 at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Dyersville, Iowa.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Schlichte and special friend, Curt Burgin of Marion; 3 grandchildren, Keith (Erin) Schlichte, Karla (Eric Morse) Schlichte and Lisa (Dennis “Barry”) Haire; and 5 great-grandchildren, Andy, Kelsy, Brittany, Olivia, and Aidan.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and 8 siblings.
Arthur was born August 24, 1915, the son of William and Mary (Schermer) Arens, in Dyersville, Iowa. He married Matilda “Tillie” Manthey on November 22, 1941 in Dyersville, Iowa. Arthur farmed for many years in the Dyersville Area and then moved to Marion in 1965 and sold real estate with his sister, Alma Henderson. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Cedar Rapids Realtor’s Association.
