Arnold “Ted” Augustine, 95, of Center Point, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron, with military honors. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; his daughter, Oma (John) Roberts of Center Point; two grandchildren, Dean (Brenda) Roberts of Robins and Danny (Vivian) Roberts of Salida, California; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special niece, Marilyn Reynolds and a nephew, Ronnie Kratzer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Johnny Augustine and wife Garnett; two grandchildren, Debra Frye and Dale Roberts; his stepfather, Grant Mittlestedt; and his stepmother, Berdie Augustine.

Ted was born May 10, 1912, the son of Dove and Maude (Hagerman) Augustine, in Toddville, Iowa. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and served in the CCC. On March 27, 1937, Ted was united in marriage to Hazel Allbones in rural Center Point. For over 30 years, he had worked in the shop at A-1 Body Shop and Rapids Body and Fender. Ted also was the Center Point Fire Chief for many years and helped start the Center Point Ambulance. He loved camping, fishing and making decorative lamps. Ted was a member of the American Legion Dye Benion Post.
