Arnold Kenneth Hanson was born January 5, 1917, in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Kristine (Framstad) Hanson. He graduated from Plymouth High School. Arnold was proud of his service in the Army Air Corps. During that time, he was sent to Detroit, MI where the Air Corps trained him to repair Mersedes-Benz airplane engines. While there, he met Betty Ann McPherson, and they were married on July 13, 1947. The couple farmed near Osage, Iowa. Following retirement from farming, the couple moved to Nora Springs, Iowa. Arnold spent his remaining years near Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Arnold could always find time to bowl and pitch horseshoes. He shared these contests with Betty and challenged many family members and friends in tournaments. His trophies grace the homes of his children and grandchildren. Arnold holds the 1989 National Championship title in his class. Arn, Arny, or Grandpa Arnold, he answered to all of these names. He had a special place in his heart for all the little children. Arnold always had a book at his side and read many a western. Thanks to his friends at the Nora Springs Public Library.

Rock Creek Lutheran Church in rural Osage played an important role in Arnold’s life. The family request memorials to be directed towards its ministry. Arnold would want to say “Mon Tusen Takk!” (Many thousand thanks).
