Armella M. Hoffmann, 100, of Masonville died April 29, 2010 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester from natural causes.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville by Rev. Greg Bahl. Family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 2nd at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa where there will be a 6:30 Scripture Service. Additional visitation after 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 3 at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Masonville.

Armella was born November 7, 1909 in Luxemburg, the daughter of John and Katherine (Pottebaum) Rausch. She attended Holy Trinity School in Luxemburg. On September 3, 1931, Armella was united in marriage to Peter Paul Hoffmann in Dubuque. The couple farmed with his parents near Luxemburg. In 1941, the couple purchased a farm and moved to Masonville. Peter died in 1957. Armella continued to farm with her son, Tom. In 2001, Armella moved to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.

Armella was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville. She was a member of the Rosary Society where she was past-president and a member of the Study Club. She was devoted to the church, where she did much volunteering. Armella enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and was known for being a great cook.

Armella is survived by her son, Tom Hoffmann and his wife, Joan Manternach-Hoffmann of Cascade; three sisters, Emma (Arnold) Walz of Monona, Theresa (Donald) Lahey of McGregor, and Adelaide (Lawrence) Bildstein of Dyersville; a brother, Merlin (JoAnn) Rausch of Guttenberg; a sister-in-law, Myra Rausch of Dyersville; and many nephews and cousins.

Armella was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine Rausch; step-mother, Anna (Knipper) Rausch; her husband, Peter Hoffmann; and eight siblings, Anna Mae Fisher, Catherine (Al) Hoffman, Edmund (Marie) Rausch, Joe (Clara) Rausch, Jack (Mildred) Rausch, Peter (Marie) Rausch and Francis and Mary Magdalen Rausch in infancy.

Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville or the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
