Arlyn W. Brockmeyer, 93, of Manchester, died January 3, 2017. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Arlyn William Brockmeyer was born November 12, 1923, in Edgewood, Iowa, the son of Clarence W. and Louida (Koeneke) Brockmeyer. Arlyn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from January 1943 – April 11, 1946. On May 24, 1946, Arlyn married Dorothy Schmalfeld in Guttenberg, Iowa. Arlyn worked for Eastern Iowa Breeders and Ralston Purina. He was a member of the American Legion, honored by the State of Iowa for his long tenure. He served on the Colesburg Fire Department for 15 years (two as chief), and was a city councilman for six years. Arlyn was also a member of the United Methodist Church, Manchester.
Arlyn is survived by his two children, Richard (Mary) Brockmeyer of Manchester and Judy (Gary) Whitehead of Delhi; four grandchildren, Lisa (Ken) Pasker of Manchester, Jeff (Ann) Brockmeyer of Ely, Cindy Kudrna of Delhi, and Cheri Oberfoell of Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Kelsey Pasker, Nicole Kudrna, Aspen Oberfoell, Alec Brockmeyer, and Collin Brockmeyer; and one great-great-grandson, Aiden Chopard; and sisters-in-law, Carol Brockmeyer and Anne Ferber.
Arlyn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; brothers, Neal, Bobie, Lester, and Carroll Brockmeyer; sister, Elverna Belamy; and great-grandsons, Cody Kudrna and Mason Oberfoell.
