Arlo T. Collingwood, 81, of Center Point, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2009, at First Christian Church, Center Point, by Rev. John Caughron. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg.
Survivors include his children, Barbara Robinson, of Pine River, Minnesota, Arlis (Laren) Frye of Norwalk, Donald (Lisa) Collingwood of Center Point, Charles Collingwood of Ashville, North Carolina, Debbie (Mike) Luke of Cedar Rapids, and Kathy (Rick) Hoxworth of Center Point; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and very special friend, Arla Port of Cottage Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; and a brother, Russell.
Arlo was born February 16, 1927, the son of James and Ruth (Smith) Collingwood, in Williamsburg, Iowa. A graduate from Montezuma High School, he served with the United States Navy during World War II. Arlo was united in marriage to Phyllis Ellefritz on January 21, 1960, in Williamsburg. She died November 27, 2001. For 37 years, he worked for Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1986.
Arlo was a member of the First Christian Church and Elks Club. He enjoyed woodworking, watching The Family Channel and loved to travel. His greatest love and most important to him was his family.
