Arlene L. "Peg? Sauer, 86, formerly of 2547 Worthington Drive S.W., died Monday, August 16, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Linda Hansen Bibb. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Penny (Bud) Scolaro, Larry (Holly) Lloyd, Judy Lloyd, Lou (John) Serbousek, Sandy (Monty) Rierson, Sharon (Monte) Barton, Rhonda (Lisa) Newman-Harbit and Kathy (Mark) McCalley; thirty grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her good friend, Wanda Brouwer of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; fifteen siblings; her husband, Ronald; a son, Newton Ray; a daughter, Connie Brodersen; two grandsons, Jeff Rierson and Ronald Rierson; a granddaughter, Madison; and a dear friend, Leona Glubka.
Born July 25, 1918, to Ernest and Irene (Harris) Johnson in Lisbon, Iowa, she married Orville Lloyd in 1934. They divorced. She married Ronald Sauer on April 5, 1947. She helped run the family well-drilling business until 1977, when Ronald passed away. Arlene worked at many places, which include, Collins Radio, Iowa Manufacturing, G and T Coney Island, Kirkwood College, Park Town Apartments, Service Master, HACAP kitchen and the Wilson Avenue Hy-Vee deli.
Everyone called her "Grandma?, because to her, everyone was her child. Arlene loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a passion. She also loved many other aspects of life including her garden, her flowers, people, singing and playing the piano; canning, making homemade bread, fudge and divinity and she loved her home. She was an awesome mom! She will be missed by many!
